Bikes

There are so many positive benefits to choosing to cycle in, improved health and fitness, less congestion on the roads, and absolutely no harm to the environment.

Here are some tips on encouraging two wheels into the office:

  • Why not invest in a pool bikes for the office? Or, how about signing up to a cycle scheme? Both are brilliant for encouraging reluctant cyclists. Get involved with the Government Cycle to Work scheme, a scheme that uses tax incentives, which allows you to buy a bike, clothing and accessories, all tax free! Payments come out of your monthly paycheque. Look into the schemes available, such as Halfords Cycle to work or Evans’ Ride to work to see what is available for you.
  • One of the biggest worries in a cyclist’s mind is ‘Will my bike be safe?’ Set their mind at ease by providing safe cycle storage for your employees.
  • Showers and lockers are a great way to encourage the pedal pushers – nobody wants to sit in morning cycle sweat and lug around bags of equipment all day. If possible, provide your employees with freshen-up facilities and storage.
  • If these tips sound great but you’re struggling to find the funds, apply for a sustainable travel grant; you can apply for up to £5,000 (or more with match-funding) to implement sustainable travel measures and encourage staff to travel in smarter.
